HOSTCOMPASS

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026. This notice concerns HostCompass at hostcompass.compatchecker.com.

Who is responsible

HostCompass is operated by James Moore, responsible for deciding how personal information is used for this website.

Email: jamesmoorewebcraft@gmail.com

Using the finder and calculator

The HostCompass finder and cost calculator run in your browser. The plugin does not send your questionnaire answers or calculator amounts to a recommendation server or store them in a WordPress visitor database. Answers and cost inputs reset when the page is reloaded.

Requests to load the website still pass through the hosting infrastructure. This notice therefore distinguishes the tool’s browser storage from hosting records and any other services loaded by WordPress.

Saved hosts and browser storage

If you star a provider, its identifier is stored in local storage under the key hc-saved on this website’s origin. This lets your saved shortlist return when you revisit using the same browser profile. It is not a visitor identifier created by HostCompass for advertising.

Saved hosts have no programmed expiry. Remove a saved provider by un-starring it, or clear this website’s stored browser data to remove the saved list. Your browser may also clear local data. The feature is requested when you use the star control.

When you contact us

You do not need to provide a name, email address or create an account to use the finder or calculator. Contacting us by email is optional; we need a usable reply address and enough information about your enquiry to respond.

If you email us, we receive your email address, the information you include, and associated message details. We use these to respond, investigate corrections and handle privacy requests. Please do not include passwords or other unnecessary confidential information.

Our public contact address, jamesmoorewebcraft@gmail.com, uses Gmail, provided by Google. Messages and attachments sent to that address are handled by Google’s email service as well as by the site operator. See Google’s privacy policy for its processing and privacy controls.

We rely on legitimate interests for routine correspondence: responding to enquiries and maintaining an accurate, useful website. Handling a request or keeping a record may also be necessary to meet a legal obligation, including applicable data protection duties.

Hosting and technical request records

The site uses Hostinger Business Web Hosting. In a site-specific response dated 24 October 2026, Hostinger confirmed that its hosting access-log service records at least:

  • Visitor IP address and country derived from that address.
  • The requested hostname and HTTP request line.
  • The browser or other client’s user-agent string.
  • HTTP response status and response size.
  • Request duration and timestamp.

These records cover requests to the website and WordPress services, including administration, AJAX, REST API and scheduled-task requests. They can therefore include administrative and automated activity as well as ordinary page visits.

Technical records support website operation, fault investigation, security and abuse prevention. For this processing under our control, we rely on legitimate interests in operating, maintaining and protecting the website. Hostinger may also process information for its own security and legal purposes.

CDN and security configuration

Hostinger confirmed that a CDN configuration exists for this subdomain, with image and WebP optimisation enabled and cache bypass off. The information supplied did not definitively establish that traffic is currently passing through the CDN. We do not treat the presence of configuration as proof of active CDN processing for every request.

Hostinger reported that the CDN-specific WAF, JavaScript and CAPTCHA challenges, country blocking and IP allow/deny rules were disabled. It describes standard hosting infrastructure protections, but could not identify which internal security-control events or retained security logs relate specifically to this subdomain. This notice does not claim those optional CDN protections are active.

See Hostinger’s privacy policy for its own processing. The retention and location limits of the site-specific response are explained below.

Email marketing and other WordPress services

Hostinger Reach is disabled and is not used to collect newsletter subscriptions or send email campaigns for this website.

The HostCompass plugin adds no analytics scripts, advertising pixels, external font requests or signup forms. Hosting and any other WordPress services have separate processing arrangements, described where relevant in this notice. We will update this notice if those arrangements change.

Who receives information

Information is available to James Moore as the site operator, Hostinger for hosting and related services, and Google for correspondence received through Gmail. Where needed, relevant hosting/security subcontractors and technical support providers may also handle information. Information may be disclosed where required by law or needed to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Provider links take you to other organisations’ websites. When you follow one, the destination receives its own request and handles information under its privacy practices. HostCompass’s current provider links have no affiliate tracking parameters.

How long information is kept

  • Finder answers and calculator inputs: held in page memory until the page is reloaded or closed.
  • Saved providers: stored in your browser until you remove them, clear this site’s browser data, or the browser clears them. The plugin sets no expiry.
  • Correspondence: retained while needed to resolve an enquiry, investigate a correction or handle a privacy request. The criteria for longer retention are an unresolved issue, a necessary record of the response, a legal obligation or a relevant dispute. Information should be deleted when it is no longer needed for those purposes.

Hostinger records and copies

Hostinger could not verify a complete retention schedule for this subdomain’s hosting access logs, any CDN request or security-event logs, backups or replicated copies, abuse/fraud/incident-preservation copies, or records retained after they disappear from hPanel.

We therefore cannot provide a verified number of days or months for those categories or confirm whether additional copies remain beyond the visible dashboard history. The amount of history shown in hPanel is not a confirmed deletion deadline. Relevant operational, security and legal requirements govern the provider’s retention, but the complete periods for this subdomain have not been established.

For information retained by Google in providing Gmail, see Google’s privacy policy. Our criteria for keeping correspondence are separate from any residual records the provider retains under its own arrangements.

International processing

Hostinger could not verify named processing or storage countries for this subdomain’s hosting, CDN or security-log systems, or their backups and copies. We cannot describe those records as stored only in the United Kingdom or assign them to a named country on the evidence available.

Hostinger’s Data Processing Addendum sets out general contractual safeguards for covered processing. It includes the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where applicable to transfers from the UK to countries not recognised as providing adequate protection, including relevant onward transfers. These are general contractual arrangements; they do not establish this subdomain’s actual storage locations or which subcontractors process its data.

Google states that its services use servers around the world and that information may be processed outside the account holder’s country. Its data-transfer information explains the frameworks and standard contractual clauses it uses where applicable. We do not describe correspondence in the Gmail contact mailbox as stored only in the UK.

Use the provider links to review their published safeguards, or contact us using the email above to request further information or a copy of relevant safeguards. We will distinguish verified information from matters the providers have not confirmed.

Your data protection rights

Depending on the information and legal basis involved, you may be entitled to request access, correction, erasure or restriction of your personal information. Portability and withdrawal of consent apply where the conditions for those rights are met. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact us using the email above to explain your request. We may need proportionate information to establish your identity or locate the relevant records.

The hosting finder gives a suggested shortlist; it does not make a decision with legal or similarly significant effects about you.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. You do not have to contact us first.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page when the site’s processing arrangements change. The date above identifies the version of the notice.
