About HostCompass

Choosing web hosting should start with your website, rather than the biggest discount on a comparison table. HostCompass helps you turn your needs into a shortlist you can understand.

What HostCompass does

Our finder asks about your website type, ongoing budget, comfort with hosting management, audience location and main priority. It then orders a small selection of providers using those answers.

You can read each provider’s tradeoffs, visit its official website, save a shortlist in your browser and estimate the cost of hosting over three years. Our guides explain hosting types, introductory offers and moving an existing website.

How recommendations work

The finder uses published editorial rules. An answer adds points to providers we consider relevant to that preference; the highest total appears first. Equal totals are ordered alphabetically. You can inspect the full rules through “Our approach” on the finder.

These are suitability suggestions. We have not benchmarked provider speed, uptime or support response times. A recommendation is not a guarantee of performance, current affordability or compatibility with every application.

What we compare

The initial shortlist includes Hostinger, SiteGround, Krystal and Kinsta. This is a starting selection, not the whole hosting market. The finder focuses on general-purpose websites and WordPress, including WordPress-based shops. It does not assess dedicated servers, specialist application platforms or the full range of VPS services.

Provider feature information was reviewed against official sources on 24 October 2026. Plans change. Check the exact tier, renewal price, payment commitment, VAT, email charges, resource limits and recovery arrangements before purchasing.

Costs you can understand

The cost calculator uses the amounts you enter. Its starting figures are examples, not offers from a provider. It includes introductory and renewal hosting rates plus flat annual extras, and allocates costs over 36 months. A longer contract can require an upfront payment covering time outside that window.

Commercial relationships

This version uses direct links to provider websites without affiliate tracking. There are no paid provider placements in the matching model. Provider names identify their respective services; inclusion does not imply a partnership or endorsement.

Corrections and feedback

If a feature, source link or explanation appears out of date, please tell us the provider, plan and page concerned. A link to the current official information helps us review it.
